The polar vortex vs. Wisconsin

image

That's what they're calling it, a 'polar vortex' has hit the Midwest. Right now it's -14F (-26F), but at least the sun is out. Usually, of course, the sun is out when the temperature drops this low. Wind chills were expected to reach 50 to 60 degrees below zero today. A group of white-tailed deer are huddled down in the ravine behind my parents' house, trying to stay warm. Almost all schools were cancelled today. Although I'll be out and about a little bit today, I'm happy to spend a lot of time snuggled up in warm sweaters and thick socks, hanging out with a kitty or two, and sipping coffee and tea. It should gradually start to warm up over the week, but I have to say, if I wanted to experience northern winter at its most wintry, I think I've come at the right time.

Stay warm!

Cheers,
Kate xx

  2. I live in central Minnesota and it's just as freezing! My car wouldn't even start this morning…wishing for summer now, haha. I just found your blog via your guest post on Rachel's blog! I hear you like art history? It's what I studied in University!! Love that connections I can have with people! :)

    1. Oh BRR we are totally in the same boat! The ground frost busted up a concrete floor in our basement last night, the temperature got so low! Just incredible. We tough northern gals just do what we gotta do. ;) And I'm all about layers. And yes! I'm in grad school for art history right now (a whole slew of time periods, mostly British) and also did my BA in art history... I just love it. It's one of those subjects that isn't just 'art' or 'history,' because you end up studying so much literature, philosophy, music, politics, archaeology, you name it... It's so interdisciplinary, it never gets boring. Finding a job will be the real test ;) Ha! Do you have a favorite period/movement/era?

      Cheers,

  3. Isn't it awful?! The good thing is that school has been called off for today and tomorrow. Talk about an extra long vacation for me!

    1. You're lucky with school! I know a lot of them were called off, but universities can be suck huge stinkers about cancelling when they should. really. cancel! And how nice is that to know in advance for tomorrow too? Faaaar better to stay at home drinking hot cocoa or baking, or sitting in a warm coffee shop all day. ;) Enjoy your extra days!
